Data & Child Privacy

Effective date: September 23, 2025

This is the plain‑English version. For the full legal policy, see our Privacy Policy.

What we collect

  • Your name, email, and settings.
  • Optional notes about your home environment and materials.
  • Child info you choose to enter (e.g., nickname, age range, developmental observations, activity logs).
  • Basic device/usage data so the app works and we can fix issues.

What we never do

  • We don’t let children create independent accounts.
  • We don’t sell personal data. We don’t share it for targeted ads.
  • We don’t ask for government IDs or medical records.

Parental consent

Only an adult caregiver can set up an account and add a child. We require parent/guardian consent for children under 13 (U.S. COPPA). In Québec, consent is generally required for children under 14.

Where data lives

We operate from Canada and may store data in Canada and the United States with reputable providers. We protect data with encryption in transit and access controls.

Your controls

  • Ask for a copy of your data.
  • Fix something that’s wrong.
  • Delete your account and your child’s records.
  • Change your mind and withdraw consent.

Email support@dakota.school from your account email and tell us what you need. We’ll verify and respond.

Quick delete

To delete everything, email support@dakota.school with the subject “Delete my account and child data.” We’ll confirm once complete.
